ABOUT THIS WINE
Fontanafredda was founded in 1858 by Vittorio Emanuele II, the first King of Italy, who purchased the estate in Serralunga d'Alba as a gift for his mistress and later wife, Rosa Vercellana. The estate's historic 'Le Righe' line features horizontal stripes on the label, representing the historical houses of Piedmont that belonged to the Royal House. Under the leadership of Oscar Farinetti, the winery underwent a green renaissance, culminating in 2018 when Fontanafredda became the largest certified organic winery in Piedmont.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 'Grappolo Intero' (whole bunch) method is utilized, blending 50% whole-bunch grapes with 50% crushed, destemmed must. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks using the traditional floating cap ('cappello galleggiante') method at a controlled temperature of 28°C for 10 to 12 days. This technique facilitates partial carbonic maceration inside the whole berries, yielding softer tannins and vibrant fruit. The wine is aged in large wood casks for at least 4 months, followed by 1 to 3 months of bottle refinement. It is sealed with sustainable Nomacorc closures made from recycled ocean-bound plastic.
