ABOUT THIS WINE
The Benanti Etna Rosso 2021 originates from the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, a region renowned for its unique terroir. The wine is a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, indigenous grape varieties that thrive in the area's sandy, mineral-rich volcanic soils. Benanti, a pioneering winery established in 1988, is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the authentic character of Etna's native grapes. The winery's vineyards are spread across various slopes of the volcano, capturing the distinct microclimates and geological influences that contribute to the wine's sense of place.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Benanti Etna Rosso 2021 is produced from hand-picked grapes harvested in October. The Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio varieties are de-stemmed and softly pressed, then fermented separately in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures (around 25°C) using indigenous yeasts. Maceration lasts for 20-21 days. Following fermentation, about 80% of the Nerello Mascalese is aged in stainless steel, with the remaining 20% maturing in used French oak barriques for 8-10 months. Nerello Cappuccio is aged solely in stainless steel. The wine is then refined in the bottle for approximately 3 months before release.
