ABOUT THIS WINE
Gran Castillo is a prominent brand operating under Bodegas Murviedro, a Spanish subsidiary of the Swiss-based Schenk Group. The brand pays homage to the historic medieval castles and fortresses that dot the landscape of Valencia and Requena. Historically, these castles served as cultural hubs, sheltering artists and poets, and acting as gathering places to celebrate life with regional food and wine. Under the winemaking guidance of Victor Marquez, an agricultural engineer with a master's degree in oenology, the winery aims to bottle history by blending a thousand years of Mediterranean winemaking heritage with modern vinification techniques. The Family Selection range offers approachable, single-varietal wines adapted to a relaxed, fruit-forward Spanish lifestyle.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for the Family Selection Shiraz begins with the careful selection of grapes from vineyards situated between 250 and 1,000 meters above sea level in the Valencia DOP, where chalky and clayey soils dominate. After being harvested at optimum ripeness, the grapes are destemmed and gently crushed. The must undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation at 26°C for 12 days in stainless steel tanks to preserve the vibrant primary fruit characteristics. Following fermentation, the wine is partially aged for four months in American oak barrels. This brief oak contact imparts structural sweetness, toast, and vanilla complexities before final blending and bottling.
