ABOUT THIS WINE
The Fonseca Vintage Port 2016 is a red Vintage Port from the Douro Valley, Portugal, produced by Fonseca Guimaraens. It is a field blend of traditional Douro grape varieties, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinto Cão. The 2016 vintage was marked by unusual weather, with ample spring rainfall followed by a hot, dry summer, resulting in low yields and concentrated fruit. Grapes are sourced from Fonseca's three quintas: Quinta do Panascal, Quinta do Cruzeiro, and Quinta de Santo António. The producer, Fonseca Guimaraens, has a long-standing history in Port production, with a focus on consistent quality and viticultural knowledge. This vintage is noted for its finely constituted fruit, attractive minerality, and exceptional tannin quality.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Fonseca Vintage Port 2016 is produced using traditional Douro Valley methods. Grapes are sourced from three distinct quintas and are traditionally trodden by foot in stone lagares. Fermentation is halted by the addition of grape spirit, preserving natural sweetness. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately 20 months in large oak vats before bottling. The producer, Fonseca Guimaraens, adheres to sustainable viticultural practices.
