ABOUT THIS WINE
The Fonseca Vintage Port 2017 is a red fortified wine from the Douro Valley, Portugal, produced by Fonseca Guimaraens. This vintage is characterized by its deep color, dense fruit profile, and a slatey minerality. The 2017 growing season was notably dry, resulting in low yields and concentrated grapes. Fonseca has a long-standing reputation for producing complex Vintage Ports and was an early adopter of organic and sustainable viticulture. The wine is sourced from Fonseca's estates: Quinta do Panascal, Quinta do Cruzeiro, and Quinta de Santo António.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Fonseca Vintage Port 2017 is produced using traditional Port wine methods. Grapes are foot-trodden in granite Lagares, and fermentation is halted by the addition of grape eau-de-vie. The wine then undergoes aging for about 20 months in used French oak. The 2017 vintage was characterized by dry conditions leading to an early harvest and low yields, resulting in concentrated musts. Fonseca Guimaraens is noted for its pioneering work in organic and sustainable viticulture.
