ABOUT THIS WINE
Formiga de Vellut 2021 is a red wine from Clos Galena, located in the D.O.Q. Priorat region of Catalonia, Spain. The wine's name, 'Velvet Ant,' suggests a combination of delicacy and strength. It is recognized as the first Catalan wine to be served at the Nobel Dinner in 2017. Clos Galena was founded in 1999 by Miguel Pérez and Merche Dalmau with a focus on organic viticulture and expressing the unique terroir of Priorat. Merche Dalmau continues this philosophy with winemaker Toni Coca. The grapes are sourced from five of the winery's fourteen organic vineyard plots, chosen for their specific soil and vine characteristics. The wine is produced with a commitment to organic farming practices.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
Formiga de Vellut 2021 is produced using organic viticulture. The grapes are sourced from five selected organic vineyard plots, with a yield of 0.5 kg per vine stem. Each varietal—Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah—is fermented separately at 22°C for 7 days, followed by maceration at 28°C and gentle pressing. The wine is then aged for 8 months in 80% French and 20% American oak barrels. Approximately 110,000 bottles are produced annually.
