ABOUT THIS WINE
Weingut Kraft is a historic family estate located in the free city of Rust, Burgenland, with winemaking roots tracing back to 1749. Today, Christoph Kraft manages the 10-hectare estate. This wine is crafted from Furmint, an exceptionally rare grape variety in Austria with less than 10 hectares remaining nationwide. Historically used for sweet Ruster Ausbruch, it is presented here as a bone-dry table wine. The name 'Hechtenstutzer' (pike-tail croppers) is a playful tribute to a local legend about the citizens of Rust who cropped the tail of a giant pike to identify it later in Lake Neusiedl for a delayed visit by Empress Maria Theresia.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The grapes are sourced from vineyards in Rust, characterized by soils of loess, calcic Leithakalk (lime), and prehistoric marine sediments. The estate is certified by Sustainable Austria. Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo spontaneous or temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve varietal purity and mineral focus. The wine is aged on its fine lees in stainless steel for approximately six months before being bottled under a screw cap closure.
