Momento Grenache Noir 2022 is a red wine from the Swartland region of South Africa, produced by Momento Wines. The wine is made from 100% Grenache grapes sourced from low-yielding, dry-farmed bush vines in the Paardeberg area, some of which date back to the early 2000s. Winemaker Marelise Niemann's philosophy centers on purity, elegance, and minimal intervention, aiming to reflect the unique terroir of the vineyards. The Swartland's decomposed granite soils and coastal influences contribute to the wine's distinctive character. The 2022 vintage is noted for its purity and energy, stemming from carefully farmed coastal vineyards.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Momento Grenache Noir 2022 is produced using a minimalist approach. Grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed, with 30% whole clusters included in small fermenting tanks. A four-day cold soak precedes fermentation with indigenous yeast, during which hand punch-downs are performed twice daily. Following fermentation, there is a 10-day post-fermentation maceration before gentle pressing using an old basket press. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and matures for 16 months in old French oak barrels. The wine is bottled unfined.
