ABOUT THIS WINE
The Pichler-Krutzler 'In der Wand' Riesling 2023 hails from the Wachau DAC region in Austria, specifically the Dürnstein sub-region. The wine's name, 'In der Wand', translates to 'in the wall' and refers to three parcels within the Kummersthal site, a notation dating back to 1314. The vineyard is a steep, terraced site, hand-worked and accessible only by stone steps, situated at an elevation of 205-240 meters. Its soil is composed of a high amount of Orthogneiss with a shallow topsoil, contributing to its rocky character. The western orientation of the vineyard leads to extreme temperature differences between day and night. Weingut Pichler-Krutzler was established in 2007 by Erich Krutzler and Elisabeth Pichler-Krutzler, who are committed to sustainable viticulture and creating wines that reflect their terroir with purity and individuality. They have been farming organically since 2017.
