ABOUT THIS WINE
The Karamolegos Mavrotragano 2020 is a dry red wine from Artemis Karamolegos Winery, located on the volcanic island of Santorini, Greece. It is made exclusively from the indigenous Mavrotragano grape variety, a rarity that contributes to its distinctive character. The winery, established in its modern form in 2004 by Artemis Karamolegos, continues a family tradition of winemaking dating back to 1952. The unique volcanic terroir of Santorini, characterized by its mineral-rich 'aspa' soil, plays a crucial role in shaping the wine's profile. The 2020 vintage was recognized with a Silver medal at the 2023 TEXSOM International Wine Awards.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Karamolegos Mavrotragano 2020 begins with a 24-hour pre-fermentation cold soak. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperatures, utilizing pump-overs and punchdowns for extraction. The free run wine is separated based on phenolic content. Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are completed in steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 24 months in a combination of first, second, and third-use oak barrels. Grapes are sourced from vineyards in Exo Gonia and Kamari, with vines averaging 20 years old, some exceeding a century.
