ABOUT THIS WINE
The Wetzer Kékfrankos 2022 is a red wine from the Sopron region of Hungary, crafted from 100% Kékfrankos grapes. Winemaker Peter Wetzer follows a philosophy of minimal intervention, aiming to capture the essence of the vineyard. The grapes are sourced from old vines (25-60 years) grown on diverse soils in Sopron, a region influenced by its proximity to the Alps. Wetzer's viticultural practices include organic farming with a focus on soil health. The wine is a reflection of this dedication to natural winemaking and the unique sense of place.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Wetzer Kékfrankos 2022 is produced using a natural winemaking approach. Grapes are destemmed and undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in open-top wooden vats, with a maceration period of about three weeks. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately 18 months in used Hungarian oak barrels on its lees, without bâtonnage. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, with minimal or no added sulfur. Viticultural practices include organic farming, zero tilling, and the use of natural cover crops.
