ABOUT THIS WINE
Kopke White Colheita 2003 is a single-harvest Port wine from the Douro Valley, Portugal, produced by Sogevinus Fine Wines under the historic Kopke brand. Founded in 1638, Kopke is Portugal's oldest Port wine house. As a Colheita, this wine represents a specific year's harvest and has been aged in oak for a minimum of seven years, developing complex characteristics through oxidative aging. The Douro region, known for its dramatic terraced vineyards and schist soils, provides the unique terroir for this fortified wine. The 2003 vintage was influenced by a heatwave, contributing to ripe fruit notes.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process begins with hand-harvested grapes, which are destemmed and crushed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats under controlled temperatures. The crucial step of fortification, the addition of grape brandy, is performed to halt fermentation and stabilize the wine. Following fortification, the wine undergoes extended aging in oak barrels for a minimum of seven years, a defining characteristic of the Colheita style. Bottling occurs when the wine is deemed ready for market.
