ABOUT THIS WINE
Dominio de Es La Mata 2020 is a red wine from the DO Ribera del Duero appellation in Spain, produced by Dominio de ES. The blend features 90% Tempranillo, 6% Garnacha Tintorera, and 4% Albillo. The wine originates from a small, 0.2-hectare plot in the La Mata Valley, characterized by ancient, ungrafted vines and a unique microclimate. The vineyard is in the process of obtaining organic certification. Bertrand Sourdais, the winemaker, is a French vigneron who settled in the region to work with these old vines. The 2020 vintage experienced a drier season with some late rains influencing grape concentration.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Dominio de Es La Mata 2020 undergoes fermentation in an oak cask, with a maceration period of 53 days. Some winemaking details include spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in an open oak tank followed by 21 days of maceration with daily delestage. The wine is then aged in new Burgundian barrels for 17 to 20 months. The grapes are sourced from pre-phylloxera, ungrafted vines. The 2020 vintage was characterized by a drier season with late rains impacting grape concentration.
