ABOUT THIS WINE
La Peona is a heartfelt tribute to the rural women (las peonas) of Catalonia who historically managed households and performed demanding physical labor in the vineyards. Produced by Heretat Montrubí, a pioneer in preserving native Catalan grape varieties, this wine is named after one of the last female vineyard workers to tend the estate. Sourced from high-altitude vineyards in the historic hamlet of L’Avellà in Alt Penedès, this orange wine represents a commitment to sustainable, organic viticulture and the preservation of local heritage.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for La Peona utilizes low-intervention, natural methods. Hand-harvested grapes undergo cold maceration with their skins (the brisat process) in stainless steel tanks, where fermentation occurs spontaneously using native yeasts. No clarification, filtration, or sulfites are added during the process. Following fermentation, the skins are pressed off, and the wine is transferred to concrete tanks to age on its fine lees for three months before bottling, preserving its raw, textured character.
