ABOUT THIS WINE
Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss is a historic estate in Andlau, Alsace, with roots dating back to the 18th century. A pioneer in biodynamic viticulture, the estate committed to these practices in 1989 under Marc Kreydenweiss. Today, his son Antoine continues this legacy with a focus on terroir-expressive, low-intervention winemaking. The Lerchenberg vineyard, meaning 'the hill of larks,' features heavy silty-clay soils that buffer dry spells and preserve freshness. A unique aspect of the estate is its artistic collaboration: for every vintage, a contemporary artist designs the label, with the 2023 vintage featuring artwork by Caroline Gamon.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for the Lerchenberg Pinot Gris is highly distinctive. While 90% of the estate-grown grapes undergo a slow, gentle pressing of whole bunches, the remaining 10% undergo a seven-day whole-bunch skin-contact maceration, adding unique structure. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts in century-old large oak foudres, where the wine also undergoes complete natural malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged on its fine lees in these traditional foudres for at least 14 months. It is bottled unfined with only minimal sulfur additions.
