ABOUT THIS WINE
Macán is a distinguished red wine from the Rioja DOCa, a joint venture between Bodegas Vega Sicilia and Benjamin de Rothschild. Established in 2004, the project aims to craft a modern expression of Rioja, emphasizing finesse, elegance, and complexity. The vineyards are located in the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria, on high terraces with calcareous clay soils. The 2018 vintage was influenced by cooler, wetter weather, contributing to the wine's freshness. The name 'Macán' is derived from a local colloquial term.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
Macán is produced from 100% Tempranillo grapes sourced from vineyards located at approximately 500 meters altitude. The 2018 vintage saw a harvest in October due to cooler weather. Grapes are meticulously selected before fermentation with selected yeasts. Malolactic fermentation occurs in both tanks and barrels. The wine is then aged for approximately 16 months, with a significant portion in new French oak barrels, alongside larger foudres.
