ABOUT THIS WINE
Matas Altas is a red wine from Bodega Cerrón, located in Fuente-Álamo within the Jumilla DOP of Spain. The wine is primarily made from 90% Monastrell, sourced from old, ungrafted vines planted between 1911 and 1967 at high altitudes (840-940 meters). The remaining percentage is a field blend of co-planted indigenous varieties. Bodega Cerrón is a family-run project dedicated to organic and biodynamic farming, aiming to produce wines that reflect the high-altitude terroir. The project focuses on preserving viticultural heritage and minimal intervention in winemaking. The wine is fermented with native yeasts in open-top wooden vats, with a portion of whole clusters, and aged in large oak foudres and barrels.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
Matas Altas red wine is produced by Bodega Cerrón using grapes from high-altitude, old ungrafted vines. The winemaking process emphasizes natural methods, starting with spontaneous fermentation using native yeasts in open-top wooden vats, with 10-30% whole clusters included. Maceration lasts for 13-14 days. The wine then undergoes aging for 11-12 months in large 5,000-liter oak foudres and barrels. It is bottled without fining or filtration to preserve its natural character and integrity.
