ABOUT THIS WINE
The Maugeri 'Contrada Volpare' Etna Bianco Superiore is a testament to a family's return to their winemaking roots on the dramatic slopes of Mount Etna. The Maugeri family, led by Renato and his three daughters Carla, Michela, and Paola, has revitalized their ancestral lands with a strong commitment to environmental and social sustainability. This particular wine, often referred to as 'Contrada Volpare Frontebosco,' hails from a unique vineyard site on the eastern side of the volcano, situated at 700 meters above sea level. The vineyard is meticulously structured with 83 terraces, each supported by ancient lava dry-stone walls, reflecting the deep connection between the land and its stewards. The 2023 vintage has garnered significant critical acclaim, with scores as high as 97 points from James Suckling, establishing it as a benchmark for Etna Bianco.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Maugeri 'Contrada Volpare' Etna Bianco Superiore 2023 is crafted from 100% Carricante grapes, a native white variety of Etna. The vinification process is designed to preserve the grape's inherent freshness and the unique minerality of the volcanic terroir. Following harvest, the wine undergoes fermentation exclusively in stainless steel tanks, ensuring a clean and precise expression of the fruit and site. A crucial step in its development is the eight-month aging period on its lees, which contributes to the wine's texture and complexity without the use of bâtonnage (lees stirring). Notably, this wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation, a decision that helps maintain its bright, brisk acidity and vibrant character, which are hallmarks of Etna Bianco.
