ABOUT THIS WINE
Medový Muškátek, meaning 'Honey Muscat,' is a unique orange wine from Richard Stávek in Moravia, Czech Republic. Richard Stávek is a respected proponent of natural and biodiverse agriculture, managing his estate as a self-sustaining farm. This wine's distinctive character comes from its vinification process, which involves skin maceration and the addition of honey during fermentation, followed by aging in acacia barrels. WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 2021 Medový Muškátek begins with hand-harvested grapes, which are then foot-crushed and undergo about a week of skin maceration. Fermentation is initiated with native yeasts, uniquely incorporating honey at a rate of 50 grams per liter. After fermentation, the wine matures for roughly nine months in acacia barrels, with bâtonnage employed to enhance texture. The final stage involves bottling the wine unfiltered and unfined, adhering to Richard Stávek's philosophy of minimal intervention and natural winemaking.
