ABOUT THIS WINE
Bodegas Mengoba's Mencía de Espanillo 2020 is a red wine from the DO Bierzo region of Spain. It is primarily made from the Mencía grape (85%) with a small addition of Garnacha Tintorera (15%), and potentially a touch of Godello. The grapes are sourced from old vines, approximately 80 years old, located in the village of Espanillo at high altitudes (around 700-850 meters). The vineyard soils are characterized by decomposed slate and rock. The wine is produced using organic and artisanal farming practices. Grégory Pérez, the winemaker, brings experience from renowned Bordeaux estates to his work in Bierzo, focusing on expressing the unique terroir of the region.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Mencía de Espanillo 2020 is produced by Bodegas Mengoba using grapes from old vines. Following hand-harvesting, the grapes undergo fermentation in large oak vats (5,000 or 2,500 liters) with native yeasts. The wine is then aged for 16 months in large, neutral oak foudres (2,500 liters). The final bottling is done without filtration. The producer employs organic farming practices, with some vineyards being plowed by oxen.
