ABOUT THIS WINE
Joiseph is a collaborative natural winery workshop founded in Jois, Burgenland, in 2015 by three friends—Richard Artner, Xandl Kagl, and Luka Zeichmann. Starting with no cellar, tractor, or typical infrastructure, their assets consisted of just three pairs of pruning shears and rubber boots. Today, they have become one of the most celebrated natural wine producers in Austria. 'Mischkultur' represents a true snapshot of a single wild vineyard where over 20 different grape varieties grow intermixed alongside cherry, walnut, and peach trees, separated by fields of wildflowers. This biodiversity creates a deeply layered, wild expression of the local terroir near Lake Neusiedl.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The grapes for Mischkultur are grown on limestone and slate soils at the foot of the Leithaberg hills. The vineyard is farmed using 100% certified organic practices, transitioning to biodynamics. All 20+ co-planted grape varieties are hand-harvested on the exact same day and co-fermented spontaneously using only indigenous yeasts. The wine undergoes a brief maceration period (skin contact) to extract light structural elements and aromatics. It is aged on its fine lees in old, neutral oak casks. In line with the producer's low-intervention philosophy, the wine is bottled unfiltered and unfined, with exceptionally minimal sulfur additions (under 25 mg/L) and no other additives.
