ABOUT THIS WINE
The Scarpa Monferrato Rosso DOC 'Rouchet Briccorosa' is a 100% Ruchè red wine from Piedmont, Italy, produced by Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa. The grapes are sourced from the 'I Bricchi' estate, located between Castel Rocchero and Acqui Terme, with vines planted around 1980 at high altitudes and facing south-west. Scarpa, a winery established in 1854, is known for its commitment to traditional winemaking, elegance, and native grape varieties, influenced by principles of low yields and extended aging. The 'Rouchet' designation is used for their Ruchè wines produced outside the specific Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato appellation. The 2016 vintage in Piedmont was characterized by a cool spring followed by a warm, dry summer, contributing to the vintage's quality.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Scarpa Monferrato Rosso 'Rouchet Briccorosa' is made from 100% Ruchè grapes, hand-harvested from vineyards located at high altitudes. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, with a 12-day maceration period on the skins that includes two manual pump-overs daily. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in stainless steel tanks. It then undergoes at least one year of bottle aging before its release. Scarpa employs sustainable vineyard practices, using copper and sulfur for treatments. The winery's approach emphasizes traditional methods, low yields, and extended aging to produce wines of elegance and longevity.
