ABOUT THIS WINE
The Antonelli San Marco estate, a historic producer in Montefalco, Umbria, has been family-owned since 1883. The Montefalco Rosso DOC 2022 is a dry red wine produced from 70% Sangiovese, 15% Sagrantino, and 15% Montepulciano. The vineyards are situated on hills at elevations of 300-400 meters with southern exposures, on clayey, limestone-rich soils. The winery is certified organic and employs a gravity-flow system for vinification. The 2022 vintage experienced hot, dry conditions followed by beneficial September rains, contributing to balanced grape ripening. Antonelli San Marco's philosophy centers on organic viticulture, native varietals, and producing wines of authenticity and elegance from their single 190-hectare estate.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Montefalco Rosso DOC is produced using grapes from Antonelli San Marco's estate vineyards. Each varietal is fermented separately, followed by a two-to-three-week maceration period on the skins. The winery utilizes a gravity-flow system, avoiding pumps. After blending, the wine is aged for at least nine months in large Slovenian and French oak barrels (25 hl). It then undergoes static clarification in cement vats before bottling. Harvest is done by hand, with Sangiovese picked in late September and other varieties in October. The estate is certified organic.
