ABOUT THIS WINE
Antonelli San Marco is a historic estate located in the heart of the Montefalco DOCG in Umbria, Italy. Directed by Filippo Antonelli since 1986, the estate has been a pioneering force in the region, transitioning fully to certified organic viticulture in 2012. The family's winemaking heritage dates back generations, but it was under Filippo's leadership that estate bottling was prioritized, elevating the winery to international acclaim. The estate spans 170 hectares, with a dedicated portion of hillside vineyards situated at elevations between 300 and 400 meters. Antonelli San Marco is highly regarded for its commitment to preserving the authentic character of local Umbrian varieties, particularly Sagrantino, while striving for a style that balances the grape's immense natural power with elegance and refinement.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process at Antonelli San Marco is designed to gently handle the highly tannic Sagrantino grape. Utilizing a gravity-fed cellar design, the grapes are moved without mechanical pumping to prevent bruising. Fermentation takes place with extended skin contact lasting between 25 and 40 days in temperature-controlled tanks at 25 to 28 degrees Celsius. The wine clarifies spontaneously without filtration. It then undergoes a rigorous 48-month aging cycle: starting with 18 to 24 months in large oak barrels, followed by 12 months of settling in glass-lined concrete vats, and finishing with at least 12 months of bottle refinement before commercial release.
