ABOUT THIS WINE
The Montes Alpha Special Cuvée Chardonnay is a 100% Chardonnay from the Zapallar DO in Chile's Aconcagua Valley. Its grapes are sourced from the Zapallar estate, situated a mere 7 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, a location that significantly influences the wine's character through cool coastal breezes. This unique terroir contributes to slow ripening and the development of complex aromas and flavors. Montes, the producer, was established in 1987 with a vision to create high-quality Chilean wines and is recognized for its innovative spirit and commitment to sustainability. The 2020-2021 growing season saw winter precipitation, necessitating specific vineyard management practices to ensure optimal grape development.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Montes Alpha Special Cuvée Chardonnay is produced from 100% Chardonnay grapes. The grapes are hand-picked and then processed using a combination of methods: whole-cluster pressing, destemming and pressing, and cold maceration. A portion of the juice undergoes malolactic fermentation. Approximately 40% of the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, with some barrels being first-use. The vineyard practices for the 2020-2021 vintage included leaf removal and bunch clearing due to winter precipitation.
