ABOUT THIS WINE
The Morgon 2023 from Domaine M & C Lapierre is a testament to the natural wine movement, carried forward by the children of its pioneers. Situated in the Morgon AOC of Beaujolais, France, the wine is made from 100% Gamay grown on ancient vines (60-70 years old) rooted in the region's distinctive decomposed granite and schist soils. The domaine is certified organic and employs biodynamic farming practices, eschewing synthetic pesticides and herbicides. Winemaking is guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention, utilizing whole-cluster, semi-carbonic maceration with native yeasts and very low sulfur dioxide additions. The wine is aged for approximately nine months in used Burgundy barrels. This approach aims to produce a pure, transparent, and vibrant expression of the Gamay grape and the Morgon terroir, reflecting both the specific vintage conditions and the estate's enduring legacy.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Morgon 2023 at Domaine M & C Lapierre is rooted in traditional, minimal-interventionist methods. Grapes are hand-harvested at peak ripeness. The vinification involves whole-cluster, semi-carbonic maceration, relying exclusively on native yeasts for fermentation. This process typically lasts between 10 to 21 days. A key aspect is the minimal or no addition of sulfur dioxide (SO2) throughout the process. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for about nine months in used Burgundy barrels (216-liter casks) that are several years old. This meticulous approach ensures the wine expresses the purity of the Gamay grape and the unique characteristics of the Morgon terroir.
