ABOUT THIS WINE
Domaine Marcel Lapierre is a legendary estate in the Beaujolais region, widely celebrated as a pioneer of the natural wine movement. Under the guidance of traditionalist Jules Chauvet, the late Marcel Lapierre, along with a small group of like-minded winemakers known as the 'Gang of Four,' revolutionized the region in the 1980s by returning to old-school, chemical-free viticulture. Today, the estate is run with the same passion and philosophy by Marcel's children, Mathieu and Camille Lapierre. Their Morgon cuvée, sourced from old vines averaging 70 years of age, is a benchmark representation of the Morgon appellation, showcasing the profound depth and complexity that Gamay can achieve when grown on granitic soils.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process at Domaine Marcel Lapierre is defined by minimal intervention and traditional techniques. Grapes are harvested entirely by hand and undergo a strict sorting process. Fermentation takes place using semi-carbonic maceration with whole clusters in temperature-controlled oak vats, relying solely on native yeasts. No sulfur dioxide is added during the fermentation process. The wine is aged on its fine lees for approximately nine months in old oak foudres (large casks) ranging from 3 to 13 years of age, ensuring no dominant oak flavors are imparted. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, with only a minimal dose of sulfites added at bottling for stability in the standard cuvée.
