ABOUT THIS WINE
The Moscatel do Douro 1980 is a fortified sweet wine produced by Adega Cooperativa de Favaios, a cooperative founded in 1952 by local wine growers. The grapes are primarily Moscatel Galego Branco, cultivated in the Douro Valley, specifically in the Alijó sub-region at high altitudes. This vintage was produced only in years of exceptional grape quality. Favaios is recognized as the 'Moscatel capital' of Portugal, highlighting the region's significance for this grape variety. The wine's production is governed by the Moscatel do Douro DOC regulations. The 1980 harvest was later recognized as one of the world's best muscatels in 2013.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The production of Moscatel do Douro involves harvesting Moscatel Galego Branco grapes manually and transporting them in trays. Fermentation is controlled and stopped by fortification with grape brandy when the desired sweetness is reached. A portion of the must may undergo skin maceration. The wine is then aged in French oak half barrels or old wooden vats for an extended period. The Moscatel do Douro DOC regulations stipulate a minimum of 85% Moscatel grapes.
