ABOUT THIS WINE
Muralhas de Monção is a distinguished white wine from the Vinho Verde DOC, specifically from the renowned Monção e Melgaço sub-region in Portugal. Produced by the Adega de Monção cooperative, this wine is a blend primarily of Alvarinho with Trajadura. The name 'Muralhas' pays homage to the historic fortress walls of Monção, embedding the wine in the region's rich cultural and historical tapestry. The Monção e Melgaço area, situated in the northernmost part of Vinho Verde and bordering Spain, is celebrated as the ancestral home of the Alvarinho grape. This sub-region benefits from a unique microclimate, influenced by the Minho River and protective mountain ranges, which fosters ideal conditions for viticulture on its granitic soils. Adega de Monção, established in 1958, is a large cooperative with a deep connection to its 1,720 members, embodying a collective passion for winemaking and regional development.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The production of Muralhas de Monção begins with careful selection of grapes. The must is obtained from the first and second pressings and then undergoes a 24-hour decantation at a controlled temperature of 14°C. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks at temperatures between 18°C and 20°C to maintain freshness and aromatic complexity. Following fermentation, the wine goes through various stages of filtration and stabilization before bottling. This process is designed to highlight the wine's vibrant fruit profile and crisp acidity, with no oak aging involved, ensuring it is best enjoyed in its youth.
