ABOUT THIS WINE
The Seghesio Family Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel 2022 is a red wine from Sonoma County, California. It is crafted from Zinfandel grapes, with the 'Old Vine' designation indicating vines at least 50 years old, averaging around 75 years. The grapes are sourced from vineyards in Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Seghesio Family Vineyards, founded in 1895, has a five-generation history of Zinfandel winemaking, drawing on their Italian heritage and extensive estate vineyards across Sonoma County. The 2022 vintage was shaped by a challenging growing season with low rainfall, frost, and high harvest temperatures, leading to a rapid harvest that concentrated the fruit's character.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Seghesio Family Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel 2022 begins with hand-sorted grapes. Fermentation occurs in small, open-top stainless-steel tanks, utilizing pneumatic punch-down devices and pump-overs for aeration. After 8 to 12 days on skins, the free-run wine is transferred to barrels to complete alcoholic fermentation and malolactic conversion. The wine then undergoes aging for 15 months, with an initial period in 15% new French oak and 85% neutral French and American oak. Following 10 months of evolution, the wines are blended and returned to barrel for an additional 5 months of integration.
