ABOUT THIS WINE
The Mullineux Old Vines White is a distinctive white wine from the Swartland region of South Africa, produced by Mullineux Family Wines. The wine is a blend primarily featuring old-vine Chenin Blanc, complemented by a selection of Mediterranean varieties such as Clairette Blanche, Semillon Gris, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, and Verdelho. These grapes are sourced from vineyards planted on ancient soils, including granite, schist, and iron-rich terroirs, with vines up to 68 years old. The winemakers, Chris and Andrea Mullineux, established their winery in 2007 with a focus on expressing the unique character of Swartland's special sites and old vines through sustainable farming and minimalist winemaking approaches.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Mullineux Old Vines White is produced using a hands-on approach that emphasizes natural processes. Grapes are hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed, with an oxidative technique employed before settling overnight. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts, and natural malolactic fermentation is allowed. The wine is aged for 11 months on its lees in a mix of French oak barrels (3rd to 5th fill) and large format foudres. After aging, the wine is racked, settled for 30 days, and bottled just before the subsequent harvest. Sustainability is a key focus, with vineyards farmed sustainably and compost produced from Nguni cattle.
