ABOUT THIS WINE
Oltre, which translates to 'Beyond' or 'In addition to' in Italian, represents a bold enological experiment by the historic Pio Cesare estate. Introduced with the 2006 vintage, it is the only blended red wine in the winery's entire portfolio. The objective of this cuvée is to step beyond strict local traditions by introducing international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot to soften and complement the rigorous, tannic profile of native Langhe Nebbiolo and Barbera. Established in 1881 by Cesare Pio, Pio Cesare is one of the oldest and most respected icons of Piedmontese viticulture, still operating out of its historic cellars built directly beneath the ancient Roman walls of Alba. Today, the estate is directed by the fifth generation of the family, Federica Boffa and Cesare Benvenuto, who maintain an uncompromising standard of quality while embracing a touch of modern innovation.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The grapes for Oltre are sourced from various estate-owned parcel selections belonging to the Pio Cesare family, spanning approximately 80 hectares across some of the most celebrated growing villages in the Langhe. The soils consist of compact calcareous-clay marl blended with lighter alluvial sand deposits. Following a meticulous harvest, fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Skin contact is conducted for approximately 20 days to maximize the extraction of varietal color, structure, and aromatics. The wine then undergoes aging for approximately 24 months in a combination of large French and Eastern European oak casks, with a small portion aged in French oak barriques to add complexity and roundness before bottling.
