ABOUT THIS WINE
Papa Figos is one of the most celebrated contemporary red wines from the Douro Valley, crafted by the historic estate Casa Ferreirinha. The wine is named after the Golden Oriole (Papa-Figos), a rare and brilliantly colored migratory bird that visits the Douro vineyards during the summer harvest. Casa Ferreirinha, founded in the 18th century, is legendary for pioneering unfortified table wines in a region historically dominated by Port. Under the guidance of winemaker Luís Sottomayor, this wine represents a modern, fruit-forward expression of the Douro's unique terroir, combining elegance with vibrant regional character.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 2024 vintage of Papa Figos Tinto is a traditional blend of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional. The grapes were harvested by hand from high-altitude vineyards in the Douro Superior and Cima Corgo sub-regions. After gentle destemming and crushing, fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with gentle pump-overs to extract color and soft tannins. To preserve its vibrant, fruit-forward profile and natural freshness, the wine was aged primarily in stainless steel and concrete vats, keeping oak influence nearly imperceptible.
