ABOUT THIS WINE
Periquita Original is a red wine from the Setúbal Peninsula, Portugal, produced by José Maria da Fonseca, the nation's oldest table wine producer. Established in 1834, the winery has been guided by the Soares Franco family for generations, blending tradition with innovation. Periquita itself is a historic brand, recognized as Portugal's first bottled red table wine, originating in 1850. The wine's identity is rooted in the unique terroir of the Setúbal Peninsula, characterized by sandy soils and Atlantic influence, which are ideal for its primary grape, Castelão.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
Periquita Original is produced using a blend of Castelão, Trincadeira, and Alicante Bouschet grapes. The grapes are fermented at 28°C, a process designed to enhance color and tannin extraction. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes a 6-month maturation period in new French and American oak barrels. This aging contributes to the wine's complexity and texture. The 2022 vintage was bottled in March 2022.
