ABOUT THIS WINE
Domaine Saint-Germain was established in 1999 in Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny by brothers Étienne and Raphaël Saint-Germain, continuing a family estate originally founded by their grandfather Albert. Operating roughly 12 hectares beneath the Dent d'Arclusaz peak in the Massif des Bauges, the estate is dedicated to organic farming and native Savoyard grape varieties. The Princens cuvée highlights Persan, an ancient Alpine red grape variety that was nearly lost following the phylloxera epidemic. The name references the historic Princens site in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, recognized as the traditional heartland of quality Persan.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
Farmed organically with Ecocert certification, the 0.73-hectare parcel of Persan yields low quantities from clay-limestone alluvial soils. Harvesting is conducted entirely by hand. The grapes undergo whole-cluster vatting without added sulfites, followed by a ten-day temperature-controlled maceration in tanks and gentle pneumatic pressing. Aging takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the pure expression of the variety without oak influence, before estate bottling with minimal sulfur additions.
