ABOUT THIS WINE
Pícara del Águila 2022 from Dominio del Águila is a red wine from the Ribera del Duero DO in Spain. It is produced by Jorge Monzón and Isabel Rodero, who established their winery with a focus on traditional methods and old vines. The wine is made from a blend of grapes, primarily Tempranillo, alongside Albillo, Bobal, and Garnacha Tinta, with potential contributions from Tempranillo Gris and Blanca del País. The grapes are sourced from vineyards ranging from 35 to over 100 years old, located at altitudes between 860 and 900 meters. The estate's philosophy emphasizes expressing the unique character of these old, often mixed plantings and their terroir through careful, traditional winemaking.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
Pícara del Águila is produced using traditional methods. Grapes are hand-harvested from old vines. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts, often employing whole clusters and co-fermentation of various grape varieties, with foot treading used. Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels. The wine is then aged for 19 months in French or American oak barrels. Following aging, the wine is bottled without clarification or filtration, preserving its natural character.
