ABOUT THIS WINE
The Pino Román Naranjo is an orange wine from the Itata Valley, Chile, produced by Ignacio Pino Román. The wine is crafted using a blend of Muscat of Alexandria and Torontel grapes, with potential inclusion of Chasselas. It originates from the coastal range of Itata, specifically Trehuaco, where vines are over 60 years old, own-rooted, and planted on granitic soils at 161 meters above sea level. The farming practices are organic, with no irrigation and minimal chemical treatments. Ignacio Pino Román's winemaking philosophy centers on minimal intervention, allowing the grapes and terroir to express themselves, often working with small growers who maintain ancient vines. This approach emphasizes that the wine's character is primarily shaped in the vineyard.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Pino Román Naranjo is produced using traditional methods in the Itata Valley. Grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed before undergoing spontaneous fermentation in old Chilean amphorae (tinajas) without temperature control. This fermentation occurs with extended skin contact for approximately 10 months. Following fermentation, the wine continues to age on its skins in the amphorae for the same duration. The winemaking process emphasizes minimal intervention, with very low total sulfur levels (around 15mg/L) and minimal added SO2 at bottling. Ignacio Pino Román's approach prioritizes allowing the natural characteristics of the grapes and the terroir to define the wine.
