ABOUT THIS WINE
Weingut Heinrich, located in Gols, Burgenland, is led by Gernot and Heike Heinrich. In 2006, they made a radical shift from producing powerful, heavily oaked red wines to embracing biodynamic viticulture and low-intervention winemaking. 'Freyheit' (meaning freedom in Middle High German) represents their philosophy of letting the wine express itself without chemical inputs, technology, or wood manipulation. This wine comes from the Ried Edelgraben vineyard on the slopes of the Leithaberg, where the vines grow in metamorphic mica slate and limestone soils.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 2021 Pinot Freyheit was hand-harvested in mid-September. Spontaneous fermentation occurred using only indigenous wild yeasts. The grapes underwent seven days of skin contact in wooden fermentation vats, utilizing 50% whole clusters to add structure and spice. Following a gentle basket pressing, the wine was matured for 17 months on its natural lees in a combination of clay amphorae and used 500-liter oak casks. It was bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with no added sulfites.
