ABOUT THIS WINE
The Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2021 is produced by Azienda Agricola Poliziano in the Montepulciano sub-region of Tuscany, Italy, under the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG appellation. The wine is primarily made from Sangiovese, locally known as Prugnolo Gentile, blended with Colorino, Canaiolo, and Merlot. The estate is named in homage to the humanist poet Angelo Ambrogini, known as 'Il Poliziano,' who was born in Montepulciano. Founded in 1961 by Dino Carletti, the estate is now managed by his son, Federico Carletti, who champions meticulous vineyard management. The winery achieved organic certification in 2021. The vineyards are situated at elevations between 300 and 420 meters, with soils composed of clay and silt containing ancient fossils. Some vines on the property date back to 1965.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2021 undergoes fermentation using vineyard-selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks, with a maceration period of 15-20 days involving punch-downs and pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation occurs in large French oak vats (6,000-8,000 liters). The wine is then aged for 18-20 months in a combination of French oak, including 20% barriques (225L), 40% tonneaux (500L), and 40% larger casks (3,500L), with a preference for used oak. A further 6-8 months of bottle aging is completed before release. The estate employs organic and sustainable farming practices. The 2021 vintage was marked by a hot, dry season leading to concentrated fruit.
