ABOUT THIS WINE
The Ernie Els Proprietor's Syrah 2017 is a red wine from Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa, produced by Ernie Els Wines. The winery was founded by golfer Ernie Els, who developed a passion for wine. It is situated in the 'Golden Triangle' of Stellenbosch, an area recognized for high-quality wine production. The Proprietor's Range represents the winemaker's expression of the estate's land. The vineyards are located on the warm, north-facing slopes of the Helderberg region, approximately 250 meters above sea level. The proximity to the Atlantic Ocean contributes to an extended ripening period, which is beneficial for grape development. The 2017 vintage is characterized by its elegance and textural finesse, with a balanced fruit and structure profile.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Ernie Els Proprietor's Syrah 2017 is produced using whole berries fermented in open-top tanks and barrels. Winemaking techniques include intermittent pump-overs and punch-downs to manage extraction, with the possibility of extended maceration. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in French and American oak barrels. The grapes are hand-harvested in the early morning hours. The winemaking approach aims to express the characteristics of the estate.
