ABOUT THIS WINE
Quinta de Foz de Arouce is a historic Portuguese estate located in Lousã, within the Beiras region. Belonging to the family of the Counts of Foz de Arouce since the 18th century, it holds the distinction of being the only active, commercially recognized wine estate in this specific mountainous enclave. The property's modern winemaking era is guided by the legendary Portuguese winemaker João Portugal Ramos, who is married to the daughter of the Count of Foz de Arouce. Surrounded by the Lousã and Penela mountains and bordered by the Arouce and Ceira rivers, the estate benefits from a unique, cool microclimate and ancient schist soils, which define the character of its traditional regional wines.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for this tinto blend focuses on taming the robust character of the Baga grape alongside Touriga Nacional. Grapes are hand-harvested into small 15 kg crates to preserve fruit integrity. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are 100% de-stemmed and undergo temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats. This is followed by an extended post-fermentation maceration to gently extract color and smooth tannins. The wine is then matured for six months in second-use 250-liter French oak half-barrels (meias pipas), which integrates the wood influence without overpowering the primary fruit characteristics.
