ABOUT THIS WINE
Domaine des Barbatruks is a microscopic estate in the Jura region of France, run by Maxim Lannay and Isabelle Delahaye. Maxim, who was inspired to enter viticulture by his high school history teacher Raphaël Monnier (of Domaine Ratapoil), honed his skills at Domaine Villet and Alice Bouvot's iconic Domaine de l'Octavin. Joined in 2019 by Isabelle, a former high-end sommelier, the duo manages just over one hectare of vines. The cuvée name 'Raide is Dead' (Stiff is Dead) is a playful nod to the wine's raw, living energy, standing in opposition to static, heavily manipulated industrial wines.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for this cuvée is defined by minimal intervention and natural methods. Grapes are hand-harvested and strictly sorted in the vineyard. They undergo 100% destemming followed by a three-week maceration period. Fermentation is entirely spontaneous, utilizing only wild, indigenous yeasts. The juice is gently extracted using a traditional manual vertical basket press. The wine is then aged for approximately 10 months in stainless steel tanks to preserve its pure fruit and terroir expression without any oak influence. Finally, it is bottled by gravity without fining, filtration, or any added sulfur dioxide.
