ABOUT THIS WINE
Corteforte Recioto della Valpolicella Classico Amandorlato 2016 is a sweet red dessert wine from the Valpolicella Classico region of Veneto, Italy. The 'Amandorlato' style is characterized by a potentially less sweet profile compared to traditional Recioto, with some suggesting almond-like aromatic qualities. Historically, this wine style is recognized as the 'father of Amarone' due to its shared drying process. The producer, Corteforte, founded by Carlo Maria Cerutti in 1989, operates from a 14th-century fortress in Fumane, adhering to organic farming and minimal intervention principles. The vineyards are situated between 150 and 300 meters above sea level on limestone, clay, and alluvial soils.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The production of Corteforte Recioto della Valpolicella Classico Amandorlato involves harvesting grapes from the outer parts of the clusters ('recie'). These grapes then undergo an appassimento process, drying until February of the following year to concentrate sugars and flavors. The must ferments in stainless steel tanks until April. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in old French oak barrels (5-25 hl or 500 l tonneaux). A minimum of 12 months of bottle aging follows before release. The producer employs organic farming practices.
