Maison Gustave Lorentz, founded in 1836 in the medieval village of Bergheim, is one of Alsace's most respected family-owned estates. Deeply rooted in the Haut-Rhin region, the winery has been a pioneer in sustainable viticulture, achieving full organic certification from Ecocert in 2012 for all of its family-owned vineyards. The estate focuses on expressing the unique clay-limestone terroirs of Bergheim, which provide a strong structural backbone and mineral complexity to their wines. WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 2024 vintage in Alsace was highly demanding, characterized by a wet spring and significant mildew pressure, followed by a warm August and a cool, damp September. This resulted in lower yields but highly concentrated fruit. The grapes were entirely hand-harvested starting in early September. Vinification began with a gentle, slow pressing of whole grapes in horizontal pneumatic presses. The juice underwent a 12-to-24 hour cold settling (debourbage) to separate natural impurities before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine was aged on its fine lees in stainless steel to preserve its vibrant freshness, purity of fruit, and mineral character.
