ABOUT THIS WINE
Weingut Meierer, located in the picturesque village of Kesten along the Mosel loop, is managed by the father-and-son team of Klaus and Matthias Meierer. The family's winemaking heritage in the region is historic, with roots dating back to the 18th century. Winemaker Matthias Meierer, a Geisenheim graduate who honed his skills at the legendary Fritz Haag estate, focuses on preserving the traditional steep-slope slate terroirs of Kesten. His philosophy, 'so that it also tastes of the Mosel,' shines through in wines that emphasize mineral precision, purity, and the unique character of their steep, sun-drenched vineyards.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The grapes are sourced from exceptionally steep slopes with gradients of 50% to 80% on weathered Devonian blue slate soils. Following selective hand-harvesting in mid-to-late October, the grapes undergo gentle pressing. Fermentation is initiated spontaneously using only indigenous wild yeasts to preserve regional typicity. The wines are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to retain freshness, while select old-vine lots are crafted in traditional oak fuder casks. The wine is aged on its full lees ('auf der Vollhefe') for up to 10 to 12 months to build structural complexity and texture before bottling.
