ABOUT THIS WINE
The Rioja Bordón Gran Reserva 2013 is a red wine from Bodegas Franco-Españolas, a winery established in 1890 by French and Spanish partners as a response to the phylloxera plague. The Eguizábal family has owned the winery since the mid-1980s. This wine is crafted from a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Graciano, and 10% Mazuelo, sourced from vineyards across Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, and Rioja Oriental, situated at an elevation of 1300 feet. The winery's philosophy emphasizes aging wines longer than legally mandated, with this Gran Reserva undergoing extensive maturation in both barrel and bottle. The 2013 vintage displays a ruby red color with russet hues, and its nose is noted for its complexity and intensity.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for the Rioja Bordón Gran Reserva 2013 involves alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. Grapes are typically destemmed and lightly pressed. A significant aspect of its production is the extensive aging regimen: 30 months in a combination of new and second-year American and French oak barrels, with decanting every six months. This is followed by a minimum of 36 months of bottle refinement. Bodegas Franco-Españolas intentionally ages its Gran Reservas for longer periods than the legal minimum, dedicating 36 months to barrel aging instead of the required 24.
