ABOUT THIS WINE
Filippo Rizzo and his wife Nancy left the restaurant industry in Belgium to return to Filippo's native Sicily in 2000, purchasing a remote, abandoned plot populated with ancient 'Moresca' olive trees. Located in a rugged interior plateau roughly 50 kilometers from their nearest winemaking neighbor, they built a self-sufficient, biodiverse natural farming haven from the ground up. Today, Filippo works the land alongside his son, Simone, cultivating vines in a polyculture environment alongside olive trees, prickly pear cacti, and almond trees. The estate's high elevation results in dramatic diurnal temperature swings, which are crucial for preserving acidity and freshness in Sicily’s hot interior.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process at Lamoresca is deliberately low-intervention. Grapes are harvested early to preserve acidity, particularly in the hot 2024 vintage. Fermentation occurs spontaneously using only native yeasts, with a 30-day skin maceration in vertical, truncated conical vats ('tini') where the cap is manually punched down twice a day. The wine is fermented without temperature control or added yeasts. It is then aged for approximately 12 months in 25-year-old, neutral truncated conical Slavonian oak casks. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration, and with minimal added sulfur.
