ABOUT THIS WINE
Samos Vin Doux is a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Samos wine from Greece, produced by the Union des Coopératives Samos (UWC Samos). This cooperative, established in 1934, brings together approximately 2,200 vine growers from the island of Samos. The wine is made exclusively from White Muscat grapes cultivated on the island's terraced vineyards. Its production method, known as 'Vin Doux' or 'mutage,' involves fortifying the must to halt fermentation, thereby retaining the grape's natural sugars. This process, combined with the unique Samian terroir, results in a wine that captures the essence of the White Muscat grape.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The production of Samos Vin Doux involves the cultivation of White Muscat grapes on the terraced vineyards of Samos. Grapes are typically harvested in late August. The key winemaking technique is 'mutage,' a form of fortification where grape spirit is added to the must to halt fermentation. This process preserves the natural sugars of the grape, resulting in a sweet wine. Fermentation occurs at controlled temperatures, often in stainless steel tanks, with gentle handling of the grapes and a brief period of skin contact. The wine is generally bottled without extensive aging to maintain its fresh, fruity profile.
