ABOUT THIS WINE
Scarpa Barbera d'Asti Casa Scarpa 2021 is a red still wine from the Barbera d'Asti DOCG appellation in Piedmont, Italy. Produced by Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa, a winery founded in the mid-1850s, this wine reflects a tradition of elegant and age-worthy winemaking. The producer's philosophy, shaped by Mario Pesce, emphasizes elegance, longevity, and meticulous craftsmanship, with a notable influence from Burgundy. The grapes are sourced from the 'I Bricchi' estate vineyards in Castel Rocchero and Acqui Terme, situated between 350-400 meters above sea level with a South-West exposure and clay-sand soils. Scarpa is recognized for its adherence to tradition, slow fermentations, aging in large oak casks, and patient bottle aging, contributing to its distinctive 'house style' of elegant wines with sharp acidity and well-aged tannins.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Scarpa Barbera d'Asti Casa Scarpa 2021 is produced using 100% Barbera grapes. Viticulture practices include sustainable agriculture, known as 'lotta integrata,' with vineyard treatments utilizing copper and sulfur. The harvest is carried out by hand. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for at least a year in stainless steel tanks. It then undergoes a minimum of six months of bottle aging before release. Scarpa is recognized for its patient approach to bottle aging, contributing to the development and integration of the wine's characteristics.
