ABOUT THIS WINE
Founded in 1820 by Scottish brothers William and John Graham, W. & J. Graham's is one of the most famous names in Port. Today owned by the Symington family, the estate is renowned for its rich, elegant style. The 'Six Grapes' name originates from the 19th-century practice where winemakers marked barrels with grape stencils to rank their quality. Casks marked with six grapes represented the finest, most complex wines with Vintage Port potential. This Reserve Ruby Port is a blend of these select batches, offering a historic taste of the estate's top vineyards, primarily Quinta dos Malvedos. It was famously served on the maiden voyage of the Queen Mary in 1936 and was a personal favorite of Sir Winston Churchill.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The grapes are entirely hand-picked from prime Douro vineyards, notably Quinta dos Malvedos and Quinta das Lages. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts for approximately two days to maximize color and tannin extraction. Graham's utilizes a combination of modern robotic lagares, which mimic the gentle pressure of human foot-treading, and traditional granite lagares. The fermentation is halted midway by the addition of neutral grape spirit (aguardente) at 77% ABV, preserving the natural grape sugars. The wine is then aged for two to three years in large, seasoned wooden vats (balseiros) at the Graham's Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia. These massive vats minimize oxygen contact, preserving the fresh, vibrant fruit character of the young wine before bottling.
